2019년에 처음 인연을 맺었던 Bakery & Roasting Cafe, La Mer PANJI의 클라이언트와 함께 한 두 번째 공간은 울산 단독주택 단지에 위치한 그들의 주거공간이다. 대형카페를 함께 운영하는 그들에게는 일과 휴식의 균형을 통한 안식의 공간이 필요로 했기 때문에 우리는 경계의 조절을 통해 그들의 시간이 자유롭고 존중받으며 그들의 La Mer PANJI와 연속성을 갖도록 계획했다.
단독주택 단지의 특성상 인접해 있는 이웃들과 프라이버시를 완벽하게 해소하기 어려운 단점을 보완하기 위해 뒷산으로 열린 ㄱ자 형태로 건축을 배치하고 외부로부터 닫힌 건축의 형태의 긴장감을 독특한 표피를 통해 이완시키고자 했다. 뒤로 열린 건축은 주변의 시선과 소음으로부터 자유롭고 안전한 시간을 영위할 수 있으며 풍치의 자유를 얻을 수 있게 했다.
이 주택의 시작과 끝의 인상이 될 현관은 그 기능을 넘어 하나의 공간으로서 사용될 수 있도록 넓은 면적을 할애하여 건축주의 취향과 라이프스타일을 반영했다. 이 공간에서 시작되는 검은 매스는 공간의 곳곳에 크고 작은 경계를 만들어 동선을 유도하며 확장과 수축을 반복한다. 가족이 함께 시간을 공유하도록 계획한 1층은 이 경계 너머 드러나는데, 여러 기능이 복합된 1층은 기능적 경계를 두되 시각적 확장을 극대화하기 위해 단을 두고 뒷산으로 열린 큰 창과 이웃 마당에 면해 있는 남향으로는 빛의 흐름을 인식할 수 있도록 낮은 창을 계획했다. 이는 경계의 끝에 자리한 자연석에 다양한 질감을 만들고 창밖의 풍경과 상호작용함으로 공간의 구심이 된다. 다시, 빛의 유희로 충만한 경계의 수직적 축은 부부의 공용공간과 각자의 개인 공간으로 구성된 2층으로 진입하게 하는데, 이 공간은 클라이언트의 취향과 변화 가능성이 있는 현재와 미래의 라이프 스타일을 반영하여 디자인되었다.
우리는 그들에 대한 애정을 담아 이 주거공간이 단순한 휴식과 일상을 지속하는 안락한 삶의 공간을 넘어 존중받고 방해받지 않는 자유롭고 충만한 시간을 영위하기 바란다.
The second space worked on with the clients for Bakery & Roasting Café, La Mer PANJI that we were first acquainted with in 2019 was their residential space, located in a complex of single household detached homes in Ulsan. As our clients, who operate a large café together, needed a place of repose formed through a balance of work and rest, we planned for their \control of boundaries.
To mitigate the characteristic downside of single household detached home complexes — difficulty in perfectly relieving privacy from adjacent neighbors — we arranged the architecture in an L-shaped form open to the mountain behind the home and aimed to ease the tension of the architectural form closed off to the outside through a unique shell. The architecture open toward the back allows for carrying on time that is unhindered by the surrounding gazes and noise and is safe, as well as earning the freedom of elegant scenery.
The entrance, which becomes the impression of the beginning and end of this home, had a wide area devoted to it so as to be able to be used as a space beyond its purpose and had the clients’ tastes and lifestyle applied to it. The black mass that begins in this space forms large and small boundaries scattered throughout, inducing the flow of movement and repeating expansion and contraction. The first floor, planned to be an area in which family shares time together, is revealed beyond this boundary; to maintain the functional boundary for the first floor — a space with comprehensive functionality — while maximizing its visual expansion, a step was placed, and a low window was planned for the large window opening to the mountain behind the house and for the Southern direction facing the neighbor’s garden to allow for the recognition of the passage of light. This becomes the central core of the space through the interaction between the varied textures created by the natural stones placed at the end of the boundary and the landscape outside the window. Also, the boundary’s perpendicular axis, saturated with the amusement of light, enters the second floor, which consists of the couple’s shared space and personal spaces, and was designed to reflect the clients’ tastes and their potentially evolving present and future lifestyles.
With our affection for them, we hope that this residential space will go beyond being a comfortable living space for simplistic rest and maintenance of daily life to allow for them to live with unrestricted and plentiful time, respected and uninterrupted.
